Reporting into the Head of New Markets this is a senior relationship role responsible for expanding our clients position in Africa outside South Africa.
THE ROLE: New Markets Client Coverage has the responsibility for corporate clients in non-presence countries. Principal regions are CIS, Eastern Europe and Africa and include clients in over 30 countries. Our clients are blue chip corporations with significant fee potential. Product focus is on debt origination (bonds, syndicated lending, secured lending and related hedging), Equity Capital Markets and M&A advisory. Our clinet has market leading positions for these products in the region and transaction activity is expected to continue to increase.
The role is based in London and the successful candidate will be responsible for running the African sub-region within New Markets team (outside of South Africa) and lead to origination of investment and commercial banking for corporate clients. The person will be part of a growing team of professionals based in London and work in close collaboration with Product Teams, Risk, Compliance, Industry Teams and other stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities: -Senior Relationship role to be responsible to expand the banks position in Africa outside South Africa -Build existing and new relationships and originate transactions (primarily Bonds, Loans, M&A Advisory and ECM transactions) for corporate clients in North Africa, Central Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa outside South Africa -The banker is expected to develop a close relationship at the Owner, CEO, CFO, Strategy and Treasury level at select blue chip clients. -Coordinate the product delivery to clients in cooperation with product, credit and where applicable industry teams -Ensure all regulatory and compliance procedures are followed Essential Competencies and Skills: -A demonstrated pattern of success in winning banking mandates -Significant transactional experience with Bonds, Loans, M&A or ECM (ideally a combination) -Strong relationship skills and keenness to understand the clients needs -Experience leading teams and leading negotiations -Strong written and verbal communication skills and positive attitude-Exposure/knowledge of the region -Relevant language skills -An ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines -A team player with strong inter-personal skills -University degree from recognised university (MBA would be useful but not essential) -Keen to travel in the region -Open social character
