Position Description: MSCI Barra, a subsidiary of Morgan Stanley and the world's leading provider of financial risk models, is seeking a Sr. Associate responsible for leading a team of analysts in Hong Kong responsible for covering fixed-income and multi-asset class securities. As the premier provider of risk management technologies to the global investment community, MSCI Barra offers a challenging and rewarding work environment that integrates best of breed investment theory, technologies, and data. This position will manage and improve production processes that create and deliver Risk Model data, together with other financial market data, to our customers and applications as well as to our research team. Responsibilities will also include business-driven projects in support of new products or expanding depth of current products. In this role, candidate will work closely with Information Technology, Data Acquisition, Research, Client Services and other MSCI Barra Business Units. Understanding clients' needs and uses of data and analytical tools in their investment processes is essential. This role will work closely with the Manager and is best suited for a strong hands-on, motivational leader.
People Management • Assist the Manager in overseeing the team's day-to-day operations including work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and decisions regarding personnel actions. • Recruit, supervise, motivate, and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. • Provide for the staffing, cross training and development of subordinate personnel. • Conduct performance reviews and feedback sessions for employees in accordance with company policy.
Process and Project Management • Responsible for timeliness and quality of all work product produced by staff • Provide leadership and domain knowledge in the resolution of issues and client requests. • Develop and monitor metrics for production and delivery of data and seek, through process improvements, implementation of industry best practices, innovative applications of technology, etc., to improve upon performance metrics. • Manage the implementation, documentation, and maintenance of production, control and QA procedures. • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of department policies and procedures • Develop and implement other processes and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals • Build strong relationships with other teams, regional offices and business units.
Risk Management • Understand franchise issues with production and development. Put in place controls and processes to mitigate risks, including cross-training and business resumption planning.
